Boys swimming honors and final Top 10: This Viking couldn’t be beat at districts

by Corky Blake

We’ve been waiting since Dec. 19 to figure out who would be our final No. 1 boys swimming team. On that Friday more than two months ago, Emmaus and Parkland tied 93-93. The programs crossed paths at a couple of invitationals, but we figured we’d let this past weekend’s District 11 Class 3A championships decide the matter. The Green Hornets did so with a tremendously focused weekend. They erased a 61-0 deficit to Parkland after the diving event earlier in the week to rally and dethrone the two-time defending Trojans 516-488.5. Prior to Parkland’s recent reign, Emmaus had won 16 consecutive district championships.

Swimmers can be honored with the Swimmer of the Week award once a season. Previous winners were Nick Berger (Phillipsburg), Dominic Faenza (Parkland), Adam Barlow (Liberty), Roman Herman (Emmaus), Tobias Scott (Northampton), Cody Smith (Freedom) and James Bevins (Easton).
